Overview

The purpose of this training school is to teach individuals how to properly operate and manage a spray irrigation system for the disposal of wastewater. This course is an approved training program of the Water Pollution Control System Operators Certification Commission, and completion is required to take the certification examination. All spray irrigation facilities that hold a permit from the Division of Water Quality for the spray irrigation of wastewater are subject to classification as spray irrigation systems. The permit holders of classified spray irrigation systems are required to designate an Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) and a Back-Up Operator who hold Spray Irrigation System Operator Certificates. The classroom training will address wastewater characteristics and treatment, disposal methods, laws, rules and permit requirements relating to the operation and maintenance of spray irrigation systems, and theoretical and practical aspects of agriculture and silviculture as they relate to spray irrigation systems. The field session will focus upon practical aspects of operating spray irrigation systems to include: monitoring techniques and practices, equipment operation and safety, equipment calibration and sampling.
