Josh Heitman, associate professor of soil science, was named as a University Faculty Scholar. Chancellor Randy Woodson announced the 2013–14 University Faculty Scholars, top NC State early- and mid-career faculty who will receive $10,000 in donated funds for each of the next five years to support their academic endeavors.

Josh Heitman, associate professor of soil science, has recieved the Soil Science Society of America Early Career Professional Award for 2013. The SSSA Early Career Professional Award recognizes professionals who have made an outstanding contribution in Soil Science within seven years of completing their final degree (B.S., M.S., Ph.D.). The award consists of a certificate and $1,000 honorarium
Owen Duckworth, associate professor of soil science, has received a five-year, $400,000 award from the National Science Foundation to study the structure, reactivity and biological diversity of iron oxide deposits present in rivers, lakes and springs.
