Walnut Creek Oral History ProjectEunice Young Joyner and Lethia Young Daniels

Mrs. Joyner and Mrs. Daniels

As children, Mrs. Eunice Young Joyner (born July 15, 1928) and Mrs. Lethia Young Daniels (born December 1, 1919) lived on their family farm on Walnut Creek where they grew and harvested many different crops. The farm stood along a large section of Walnut Creek where Fuller Elementary School and Saint Ambrose Episcopal Church are now. The two sisters moved to Raleigh in February of 1935 with their mother, Ethel Lightner Young, eight siblings, and their uncle, John Lightner. Mrs. Joyner and Mrs. Daniels both believe that Walnut Creek does not receive the attention it deserves. The sisters, along with their family, have spent much time and money cleaning up debris and litter around their property. Each of them is hopeful that the planned Walnut Creek Education Center will create more awareness around the Raleigh area and increase cleaning efforts by everyone in the community.
