Lillian Currin has been living in Raleigh since 1954 when she first came to study at Shaw University. She has lived in the Rochester Heights community for forty-seven years where she taught at Fuller Elementary School. Her earliest memories of Walnut Creek were that it was very dirty and that it often flooded. She currently sees the Walnut Creek wetlands as a place to preserve nature and as a resource to help contain runoff. She is now a member of Partners for Environmental Justice, a community group working to impact the health of the creek and the community.
