Walnut Creek Oral History ProjectDr. Norman Camp

Dr. Camp

Dr. Norman Camp is very familiar with the Walnut Creek wetlands. Growing up just north of the area, memories such as playing in the wetlands and going to school shaped and instilled in him a love for science. Graduating from North Carolina State University with a PhD in 1979 later persuaded Dr. Camp to become involved in Partners for Environmental Justice (PEJ). Dr. Camp was asked to lead the group in 1995, an offer he could not refuse. Not only has Dr. Camp benefited the wetlands by working for PEJ, he has helped plan an environmental education center nearby. With a goal of keeping children safe in schools and at home, Dr. Camp has never given up on improving this area. He is not only a positive influence for the communities along Walnut Creek but also for the city of Raleigh. His hope for this area is that its citizens make the city of Raleigh a better place to live.
