MEMORANDUM

TO: Trainers of Animal Waste Management System Operators
FROM: Karl Shaffer and David Crouse- NC Cooperative Extension Service
Bo McMinn, DWQ Technical Assistance and Certification Group
DATE: June 5, 1997
SUBJECT: Additional Requirements for Dual Certification

As there appears to be a need in the regulated community for individuals to acquire both a Type A and a Type B animal waste operator certificate, the following training scenario will be allowed for an individual to be eligible for each individual certification examination. This proposal is justified by the fact that the vast majority of the training program for both Type A and Type B is the same material. If an individual has successfully completed ten hours of training to become a Type A animal waste management system operator, he must also complete the following to become eligible for certification as a Type B animal waste management system operator:

Chapter 2B
Pages 1-10: Collection and Transfer, Barn and Lot Management, Flush Systems, Dry Stack Systems, Liquid Manure Systems, Slurry Storage Ponds and Basins, Storage, Agitation
Page 27: Bio-gas Recovery
Page 28-29: Manure Spreaders
Hose-Drag Injection
Page 35: Slurry Irrigation
Page 36-40: Pasture Management
ADDITIONAL TIME NEEDED: 45 MINUTES
Chapter 5B
Page 27-33: Calibration of Manure Spreaders
Page 34-44: Relevant Math Examples
ADDITIONAL TIME NEEDED: 45 MINUTES
Chapter 6
Page 31-35: Record example for Type B
ADDITIONAL TIME NEEDED: 30 MINUTES
TOTAL ADDITIONAL TIME NEEDED: 2 HOURS

If an individual has successfully completed ten hours of training to become a Type B animal waste management system operator, he must also complete the following to become eligible for certification as a Type A animal waste management system operator:

Chapter 5A
Page 1-26: Irrigation Scheduling, Operational Considerations, and System Calculations (although this is the same manual material, it is not being emphasized in Type B training)
