Welcome to our New Graduate Student, Mandy Liesch

Jan. 19, 2012 (Posted by: Heitman)
Mandy is a native of North East Wisconsin (and might love the Packers more than soil science). She is a new PhD student in Soil Physics under the supervision of Dr. Josh Heitman and Dr. Aziz Amoozegar. She earned her BS in International Studies with an Agricultural emphasis from the University of Wisconsin and River Falls, where she studied food and environmental resource politics and policy. After graduating in 2009, she got her MS in Agronomy from Kansas State University studying soil fertility (iron deficiency) in Western Kansas in 2011. An avid traveler, she has worked with soils and sustainable agricultural development projects in South East Asia, Europe, and New Zealand/Australia, as well as in six states. In her free time, she does work with K-12 students in soils, agronomy, and environmental science. She also happens to enjoy adrenaline sports, like rock climbing, whitewater rafting, and boxing. She is active in competitive dog agility with her lab/border collie mix Clark. Mandy's research focuses on soil water movement and storage.
